Founded by Ross Richie in 2005, Diamond Gem Award-winning “Best Publisher” BOOM! Studios (boom-studios.com) generates New York Times best-selling Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic books and graphic novels. BOOM! Studios is comprised of four distinct imprints: The “Studios” imprint is home to The Woods, Grant Morrison’s Klaus, and Big Trouble in Little China. Imprint “BOOM! Box” publishes Lumberjanes, Steve Jackson Games’ Munchkin, and Giant Days. All-Ages imprint “KaBOOM!” publishes Charles Schulz’ Peanuts; Jim Davis’ Garfield; and Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time. And the “Archaia” imprint is home to Mouse Guard, Cow Boy, and numerous Jim Henson Company properties. Since 2013, BOOM! Studios has had a unique first-look feature film relationship with 20th Century Fox and since August 2014 BOOM! has had a similar first-look relationship with Fox’ television studio to develop properties for the small screen.
Meet The Team
Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Ross founded BOOM! Studios in the spare bedroom of his apartment in June of 2005 — the company went on to win “Best New Publisher” four months later. Since then, BOOM! has added “Best Publisher” from Diamond Comics Distributors to its list of accolades in 2009 and 2010, along with an Eisner Award and several Harveys. Ross is originally from San Antonio, TX.
When Matt was promoted to head of editorial at BOOM! in July of 2010, he made history as the youngest Editor-in-Chief amongst major comics publishers. As an Editor, Managing Editor, and ultimately Editor-in-Chief, Matt has spent years overseeing an era of unmatched success and growth at the award-winning company. Prior to BOOM!, Matt was the head buyer at the legendary Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. During his tenure, he was a tastemaker and coordinator of industry events for the likes of the Disney, MTV, and the CBLDF. Matt is originally from Providence, RI.
President of Publishing and Marketing
As BOOM! Studios President of Publishing and Marketing, Filip Sablik oversees both logistical publishing concerns including interacting with key distribution partners, digital initiatives, licensing partners, printers; and also, on a daily basis dons his marketing cap to spearhead BOOM!’s marketing, press, and promotion initiatives. Sablik is a six year veteran of Diamond Comic Distributors, where he rose to Assistant Manager of the Purchasing Department. He then transitions to publishing by moving to Top Cow Productions in 2006 as Vice-President of Marketing & Sales, before being promoted to Publisher in 2008. As Top Cow’s Publisher, Filip Sablik managed all of Top Cow’s publishing business including editorial, marketing, production, license coordination and digital distribution. Sablik has also worked as a creator, writer and artist in the comic industry. He is the creator and writer of Pilot Season: Asset and Pilot Season: Misdirection, as well as co-creator and co-writer of Last Mortal. A graduate of the Maryland Institute, College of Art, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Art in Illustration and graduated cum laude.
Vice President of Licensing and Merchandising
Drummer, father and avid pop-culture devotee, Lance has extensive experience in the industry, including a decade with Dark Horse Comics as the Director of Global Licensing before joining BOOM! Studios in 2010. Lance has worked intimately with brands around the globe that include The Muppets, Disney (Classics), PIXAR, Lucas Film’s Star Wars/Indy Jones, Hellboy, Sin City, Frank Miller’s 300, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Aliens/Predator and most recently Charles Schulz’s PEANUTS and Jim Davis’s Garfield. When he’s not focusing on world domination, you’ll find him perpetuating his own version of “Portlandia” up in Oregon.
